Howdy! You want to know about this web designer? I’m flattered! (I choose to be flattered rather than creeped out.)

As you’ve probably guessed, my name is Justin Bailey and I’m a Houston web designer. Fair warning: I’m an Aggie through and through. I bleed maroon. Don’t get me wrong: if you want to give me money I don’t care where you went to school or who you root for. But I root for the maroon and white. 

I’m A&M class of 2010 and studied political science. I’ve been a professional website designer since 2012.

My love for web design actually started when I was about 11 years old. I was in fifth grade, and for a project we were tasked with creating a custom web page with a short story we’d written. The year was 1999, so I can’t say it was a particularly advanced website, but it planted the bug.

When I was in middle school, I created a fan website for a couple of book series I was really into. Nerd, I know.

In college, I was a Marketing Assistant for the College of Geosciences at Texas A&M. I wrote news stories about professors, students, and their research, and updated the College website.

My Life as a Web Designer

My first foray into modern web design came in 2012. I was hired as a Marketing Director for Genesis BCS (now a client!). In the interview, they asked if I could create a new website for them. Being the confident person I was, I said “OF COURSE!”. In reality, it’d been a long time since I’d done anything resembling web design from scratch. None-the-less, I taught myself and fell in love with web design. In 2014, I resigned that job and started Justin Bailey Design, for which I’m the lead (okay, only) web designer.

And I love it.

Over the past 4 years, I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned what makes a great website and what makes a bad one. I’ve learned CSS and how to manage my time and money. And I’ve loved every minute of it.

I’ve made connections with mentors (like Shelley Roth, MA Shute), and friends (Hey-O Courtney Coats!).

• I LOVE craft beer.
• I’ve currently lost 60 pounds on a Keto diet, which, unfortunately, limits my intake of craft beer.
• I drink 4+ cups of coffee per day.
• I’m a Christian. I try to be honest, friendly, and compassionate in everything I do. I fail a whole lot. Here’s to being a work in progress!
• I keep my living room and kitchen spotless. My bedroom is a disaster area. Read into that what you will.
• If I were an animal, I’d be a dolphin.
• I love the freedom of being a web designer – and my clients being my only boss.
